Suki fast food chain launches express model

Inside Franchise Business: Suki Express is launching in TownsvilleHealthy fast food chain Suki has put breakfast on the menu in its brand new express concept targeting city workers.

The first Suki Express outlet opens in Townsville early August.

Franchisor Kim Toovey, CEO of Suki Sushi Burrito, told Inside Franchise Business, “We’ve been playing out of the 100-120sqm space in a retail landscape that is accompanied by higher rents. We’re introducing this model as an alternative option to fit into CBD.

“We won’t be putting the traditional Suki outlet into a city location. Suki Express is for key locations, with a reduced footprint. It’s another option for people to choose from.”

The 20sq m kiosk will offer consumers a set menu, with some modifications allowed, rather than the full menu of poke bowls and sushi burrito available at larger format outlets.

The business has partnered with an upcoming brand, Acai Flow, to provide the basis of its breakfast offering. A soft serve machine will pump a gelato-like acai serving into a bowl to which can be added seasonal fruits, nuts and seeds.

Suki Express will also serve healthy smoothies and coffee.

Toovey said food outlets need to capture more than one service period, with three service periods almost a necessity.

“We are making sure we can do that. It’s about partnering with the right company. That had been our reservation before, not having the right breakfast offering.”

Existing Suki outlets could introduce the breakfast option if it will suit the customer profile and footfall. Right now there’s a fairly even split between lunch and dinner business in Suki outlets, Toovey said.

The Townsville launch of Suki Express with an existing, local franchisee at the helm, will be followed by two more full size stores at Fairfield and Smithfield Cairns by early September.
