A new property opening in Victoria has seen Quest Apartment Hotels continue a trend of multi-unit franchising.

The latest property at Burwood East opened in early June, with Quest Mont Albert franchisee Kris Marinakis taking the reins.

“After the success we enjoyed at Quest Mont Albert, thanks in large part to Quest’s business franchise model and development in the local area, purchasing a second franchise was the next logical step,” Marinakis said.

Located in one of Melbourne’s largest suburban renewal zones, the 91-apartment property is certain to attract some attention. New developments and refurbishments to existing local attractions such as the Burwood Brickworks and Deakin University are generating strong interest in the area.

Marinakis said the region’s growth rate provided an opportunity that was too good to pass up.

“Thousands of new residents, business travellers, students and shoppers are visiting the City of Whitehorse each year, increasing the demand for premium accommodation,” he said.

Quest multi-unit franchising

The Burwood East site is the third property to open in Victoria this year, and follows a familiar pattern of Quest multi-unit franchise growth.

In March, fellow Melbourne franchisee Catherine Mapperson opened the St Kilda Rd hotel, her third with the organisation.

Like Marinakis, the geography of the new site played a pivotal role in her willingness to get on-board.

“I believe that my strength is being involved in properties, in a very hands-on, operational role. For that reason, geography was very important to me, and I was always really interested in a franchise around the St Kilda Rd, Albert park region,” Mapperson said.

“When Quest St Kilda Rd came up, I jumped at the chance and it’s been a fantastic venture so far.”

Over the last 10 years, growth in the hotel and apartment industry has been steady, buoyed primarily by an evolving tourism sector.

Mapperson suggests that unlike other industries, the accomodation sector can be a true barometer of economic stability within the state.

“The hotel and accommodation sector in Victoria provides an enormous amount of jobs and income, so it’s important we maintain these standards,” she said.
