Yamaha Sky Division Australia has recently introduced its RMAX unmanned helicopter, which is designed specifically for the agricultural industry.

The remote controlled helicopters allow franchisees and contractors to spray weeds and crops, as well as spread seed from the air, saving them the additional time and effort associated with more traditional farming methods.

They can be used to spray dangerous aquatic weeds, are able to access uneven ground and liquids and granules can be dispersed across a 400m range from the location of the operator, which means it is able to cover approximately two acres in six minutes.

Because it is the only helicopter of its type in the country, franchisees will be able to provide their clients with a service no-one else can.

In order to become a franchisee, applicants must meet a number of stringent CASA and Chemical Handling qualifications.

According to the company, the skills franchisees acquire through such qualifications will set them apart from their competitors, as well as enable them to grow their business by taking on additional helicopters.

Greg Harris has been heavily involved in the growth and development of the helicopters, and he is Yahama Sky Division Australia’s first franchisee.

Harris said the opportunity has allowed him to expand his business drastically, and it has garnered interest from both the state government and a number of property owners.  

“I’ve spent nine years waiting for the approval of this technology, and now that I am fully operable in the ACT I am working with the ACT government, as well as servicing clients nationally.”

National sales manager for Yamaha Sky Division Australia, Mike Johnson is excited by the new innovation and the opportunities that it will provide franchisees.
