Mr Whippy back on the streets

Sarah Stowe

Mr Whippy vans will soon be back on the streets, with the ice cream franchise on the look-out for a suitable partner to operate them.

We realise the brand recognition that the Mr Whippy vans still have and believe that now is the time for them to be reintroduced, said Howard Bellin, franchising specialist and consultant to Franchised Food Company (FFCo), which owns Mr Whippy.

The ice cream market has been steadily growing and there is an increasing demand for mobile vending.

According to Bellin, the business opportunity has the backing of FFCo and its Cold Rock ice cream franchises, with product supply taken care of and little capital required.

Mr Whippy first came to Australia in 1962 as a retailer of ice cream products sold from its fleet of vans, but in the early 70s decided to sell off its fleet of vans and start retailing through outlets in shopping centres.
