Brisbane based admin officer and mother of two Kristine Menzel has taken out Betta Home Living’s Matthew Hayden Cooking Competition.

While thousands of people from around Australia entered the competition, it was Kristine’s green curry that won the judges over.

Graeme Cunningham, CEO, BSR Australia Limited said entries were of an extremely high calibre.

“It was very hard to select the winners as the quality and variety of recipes was exceptional.

“We had everything from your classic Sunday roast to home-made ginger and lemon butter and belly-bulging desserts,” added Cunningham.

Nevetheless, it was Kristine’s dish that impressed everyone and really stood out from the rest.

“It was the winning combination of simplicity, versatility, fresh produce and spices that edged Kristine Menzel’s recipe ahead of the pack.

“Her tantalising Thai green prawn curry had everyone’s mouth-watering, including Matthew Hayden,” he said.

Kristine said her tried and true recipe contains a number of different ingredients, including turmeric, garlic, coriander and lime juice.

“I’ve been making it for a few years now and I haven’t come across anybody that doesn’t like it!” she said.

“It has wonderful traditional Thai flavours, it’s healthy and a good hearty meal which can be adapted to include ingredients like chicken and vegetables.”

Kristine has won $7000 worth of Beko European appliances, and she can’t wait to install a new gas oven and stove in her kitchen.

Seven runners up will each receive a $1000 Betta Home Living gift card.
