The Franchise Council of Australia has welcomed the Labor Party’s commitment to introduce a separate automotive code of conduct, should it be elected to govern.

Mary Aldred, CEO of the FCA, said submissions to the current parliamentary inquiry had served to highlight the significant specific challenges the automotive sector is facing.

A statement from the FCA said the organisation supports to separate code concept in principle.

“It is important that in the preparation of any new code, the industry is comprehensively consulted and a proper balance assured that incorporates best practice compliance, consumer protection, competition and continued market innovation.”
