7-Eleven employees pay cut of award wage back to franchisees

According to a new Fairfax Media report, 7-Eleven employees have allegedly been receiving the correct award wage in their nominated bank accounts for the hours they worked. However, the money they are paid is expected to be paid back in part to the franchisee in cash.

Adele Ferguson of The Sydney Morning Herald reported that if staffers refuse to comply, they risk losing their job and are allegedly threatened with deportation and exposure.

According to one Sydney-based 7-Eleven employee a franchisee’s representative either collects cash away from surveillance cameras on-site or outside the store.

The employee said the payslip reflects a payment of about $25 an hour, which is within the award rate, but the agreed figure between employee and franchisee is a lesser amount.

The panel headed by former ACCC chairman Allan Fels will kick off this week.
