Lighting up their future with a family business

Sarah Stowe

The Cirillo Lighting and Ceramics chain has opened its first franchise, with an Iranian-born family heading up the new business.

Two sons, Bob and Ben (a dentist and medical student), came to Australia independently to pursue studies and enjoy a better lifestyle. Ben and his wife Anita were the first to arrive 11 years ago with Bob arriving a year later with his wife Bita. The and were then followed by their father Sam and his wife of 40 years, Maryam.

Investing in a family-owned business made sense for the Moharamis: both families like working together.

As an electronic engineer with experience and a wide knowledge in business management, lighting and other construction activities, Sam wanted a business that suited his interests. He will be managing the Sydney showroom on a fulltime basis assisted by Bita.

After comparing competitive business models the Moharami family decided the multiple income streams available from Cirillo’s diverse product range gave the company the edge.

The Brookvale site suited the family with its large precinct for home renovation and the added advantage of it being their local community.

Cirillo Lighting and Ceramics is a one-stop shop for people wanting to build or renovate their home.

Managing directoar Joe Cirillo says “Our model combines tiles, lighting, bathroom ware, kitchen appliances, tap ware, door furniture and interior design services for a range of budgets.

“It is this diversified and exclusive product offering that provides franchisees with a business model capable of maximising their return on investment and building capital for themselves and their families.”
