Gloria Jean’s to extend in Turkey, China

Australian coffee franchise chain Gloria Jean’s Coffees International is ready to sub-franchise in China and has renewed its master franchise agreement in Turkey, the third largest market for the brand.

Dash Brands, the master franchise partner in China since 2008, has a flagship store on the Bund in Shanghai and a number of sites ready for expansion by individual franchisees. The company has localised the brand to appeal to Chinese tastes, for instance introducing a range of Green Teas to the menu.

Nabi Saleh, executive chairman Gloria Jean’s Coffees, said “We have worked closely with Dash Brands to develop a growth plan for the market and we are delighted that in such a short time the brand has proved to be so successful in China that it is now ready to sub franchise. Our goal is to open 50 stores within the next three years. Our biggest challenge is to compete with other foreign coffee brands and local players in acquiring great locations with a competitive rent.”

The Turkish master franchise agreement has been renewed for up to 20 years with a commitment to significantly grow the number of coffee houses; more than 50 have been established in the 14 years the coffee brand has been in the country.

“Our master franchise partner, Reysas Turizm, has also introduced an additional shareholder to bring in wider expertise and some more capital to the business. The existing management team will continue and are reenergised by the change and ready to take the brand to the next level,” said Nabi Saleh.
