Inside Franchise Business: Brisbane Airport Corporation open for opportunityBrisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is on the hunt for premium food and beverage outlets to operate 10 sites within its Domestic Terminal.

The opportunities, which range from 35m2 all the way to 417m2 will be located in the Qantas and Central Terminal area on Level 1 (Arrivals) and Level 2 (Departures) and will be complemented by a new retail mix of fashion, accessories and other specialty stores.

Jessica Shannon, Community Engagement Advisor for BAC said the new sites offer an exciting opportunity for franchisees to expand their network.

“The sites present a great opportunity for franchises to expose their brand to millions of customers annually from all over Australia and parts of the world,” Shannon said.

“The airport has a captive audience so there is huge potential for productive franchises.”

The group is currently accepting Request for Proposals from experienced food and beverage operators across a variety of concepts, which Shannon believes will differentiate the space.

“Our goal is to break the usual ‘airport mould’ and to create a distinct space that differentiates Brisbane Airport from all others,” Shannon said.

“It is more than just the food and fashion, it is about creating a space that celebrates what is uniquely Queensland and is also comfortable and inviting. From opening the ceiling voids to create more natural light, to the tenancy designs incorporating natural Queensland materials to the locally sourced produce served in our restaurants and cafes.”

The theme of locally sourced produce runs steadily throughout the proposal, with the group clearly focused on creating an environment that is not only beautiful but also sustainable.

“By celebrating local produce we also celebrate the stories behind the producers. The stories of the producers who put their heart and soul into their products only adds to the uniqueness of what’s on offer,” Shannon said.

“It’s not just about the quality, variety and choice of F&B on offer, it’s about being a destination in itself offering imaginatively prepared, locally sourced produce, and a memorable ‘taste’ of our remarkable location.”

Stage 1 of the Domestic Terminal redevelopment was completed in June 2016, and saw the introduction of 19 new retail, food and beverage concessions.

Among them were; Mecca Maxima, Lorna Jane, Peter Alexander, Carls Jr, Mad Mex, Sushi Sushi, Sumo Salad, Merlo and Fonzie Abbott.

Stage 2 of the retail redevelopment is set to open January 2019 and includes a $40 million upgrade to the Domestic Terminal and retail offerings in the Northern and central areas of the terminal.

Shannon said the works are scheduled to commence in late 2018 and will deliver over 50 new and refurbished stores when complete.

“The first (outlet) will be opening late 2018 with the introduction of Seeds by Bruno Loubet which will be a fresh and healthy quick service food offering. The next are due to start opening from mid- 2019 until mid to late 2020,” Shannon said.

The new retail and food and beverage additions will bolster BAC’s goal of  showcasing the best of Queensland, turning Brisbane airport into an international consumer hub.

“Our vision is to create a liveable airport environment that provides experiences that are uniquely Brisbane and South East Queensland.”

The RFP will close at 4pm AEST Thursday 20 September 2018.
