Bakers Club bread gets Red Cross approval

Sarah Stowe

Franchised Bakers Club has just gained Red Cross approval for its low GI German wholegrain bread.

Starting in October mobile blood collection points will be positioned near Bakers Club outlets and, after giving blood, donors will receive vouchers for a free low GI sandwich to boost their depleted energy levels.

Christian Coenen, sixth generation baker and founder of the Bakers Club, said “this bread is not a sugar bomb, this provides slow release energy all day.”

The bakery chain imports European wholegrain flour to make its distinctive breads and franchisees benefit from the overnight proofing which allows for all-day baking, relieving them of night work.
