About 7 Eleven Stores
7 Eleven Stores

7 Eleven is Australia's Leading Convenience store chain. The 7 Eleven Business system provides a valuable trademark recognised world-wide, a proven system of operation, an award-winning franchise concept. The company has operated in Australia for over 20 years. There are now over 230 stores in VIC, NSW and QLD. Continued expansion is planned.

7-Eleven – 24/7 Success

If you’re looking to be your own boss and operate your own business, a 7-Eleven franchise comes with a proven history of success from a brand that’s known and loved worldwide, and an incredibly thorough support system for franchisees.

Home to the world famous Slurpee (7-Eleven sell 6,600,000 Slurpees each year in Australia alone!), renowned for super fast service and recognized as the original convenience store, 7-Eleven is the largest operator of convenience in the world, with more than 27,900 stores in 18 countries, with annual sales of about US $36billion.

In Australia 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd are family-owned by the Withers and Barlow families, with 360 stores across the Eastern States. The first franchised convenience store in Australia, 7-Eleven will be celebrating its 30th birthday next year, and its status as the market leader in convenience retailing in Australia, with annual sales of AUS $1.1bn.

24/7 success – how 7-Eleven make it work for you:

  • We find the site and fit it out
  • We provide full training for all Franchisees
  • We offer 24 hour support
  • We provide a payroll service and help with book-keeping
  • We negotiate with suppliers and provide recommended product layouts for maximum sales
  • We provide advertising and promotional support

What’s the cost of 24/7 success?

Initial Costs
Most of the franchises available for sale are existing stores. Initial costs vary from store to store but range from $300k to $800k+. The initial costs are made up of the following elements:
Application fee, Franchise fee, Goodwill payment to existing franchisee and an Initial Payment for Stock. A more detailed breakdown of costs is available on our website.

The 9 steps to 24/7 franchisee success
We want 7-Eleven to be the first choice for anyone looking for convenience shopping. Because of this, when we choose new franchisees, we look for people who can deliver great customer service, have a passion for retail and can help to build the 7-Eleven brand.

With start up costs anywhere between $300k - $800k+, investing in a 7-Eleven franchise is a big decision to make. That’s why we have designed these 9 steps to try and ensure we are right for you and you are right for 7-Eleven.

These steps can also be viewed in more detail at our website.

  1. Complete the on-line application form
  2. Your first interview
This first meeting is an opportunity for us to see whether you are right for 7-Eleven and if we are right for you.
  3. Learn more about the 7-Eleven system
Relevant financial information will be provided and you should consult your accountant and business advisor.
  4. Create a business plan
You develop a business plan for your proposed store and to present this to us for review. (If this stage is successfully completed, we will provide you with a copy of the Franchise Agreement. You are required to seek legal advice on the Franchise Agreement.)
  5. Complete a franchisee profile questionnaire
A Franchisee Profile Questionnaire further assesses your suitability as a 7-Eleven Franchisee.
  6. Start your in-store training
Application fees are paid and instore training begins.
  7. Sign the Store Agreement
This is a legal document which you will have an opportunity to review before you sign it.
  8. Start your classroom training
Once you have successfully completed this stage you are ready for your first day as a 7-Eleven franchisee.
  9. You’ve done it!

Welcome to the 7-Eleven family. Your first day in your own store and the store agreement is now effective.

24/7 Success Stories – meet our Franchisees

Sharon & Graham Hunt – “7-Eleven Franchisees of the Year”

STORE: Silkstone, Queensland

What was your background before joining 7-Eleven?
Graham - I trained as an auto sparky in NZ, working on boats and trucks. In fact Sharon and I bought a mobile auto marine service station, which we turned into 3 successful businesses.

After a time though we decided we wanted to move to Australia – better weather! – and after attending a 7-Eleven seminar in Auckland about 4 years ago, we decided to move to Queensland to open a store.

What makes your franchise successful?
Sharon - We get heavily involved in our local community. Graham coaches a senior rugby side, which is great exposure for the business. We also pay close attention to detail, store cleanliness and staff uniforms. It’s also very important to know your customers and make them feel important.

What words of advice would you give prospective franchisees?
Graham - Do your homework – really evaluate the systems and figure out what business suits you. And be prepared to work hard. However if you do the rewards are for the taking.

Mark & Sharon Madden - Part of the community

STORE: Brassall, Queensland

What was your background before joining 7-Eleven?
Mark - we always wanted to run our own business. Initially I worked for a lawn & garden maintenance franchise where I became Operations Manager. I even used to cut grass outside my local 7-Eleven. After seeing one run first hand, I then investigated the business model, and decided to buy into a store. That was about 4 years ago.

What makes your franchise successful?
Sharon - getting involved in the local community has been critical to our success. Not only because we get a lot of satisfaction from being part of our community, but also because it’s a great way to give our store exposure in the local area. We sponsor a local Rugby League & Soccer Club and the team strips carry our 7-Eleven logo. We also sponsor a music program at our local school and recently funded recording equipment. It’s a question of putting yourself out there and helping the people around you. The appreciation of these activities is amazing and people really value your support. They’ll then choose to shop with you.

What are the most challenging aspects of running a 7-Eleven franchise?
Mark - getting familiar with the 7-Eleven system can take time. Perseverance with that one.
Sharon – Utter commitment to deliver fantastic customer service - no matter what.

Sangeeta & Viresh Patel - All in the family

STORES: King Street & Argyle Square, Victoria

What was your background before joining 7-Eleven?
Sangeeta - I was a Housewife. But I was happy to make my life even busier.

What makes your franchise successful?
Viresh - having the strength of the 7-Eleven brand behind us plays an enormous part in our success. We also make sure we give great customer service and get to know our regulars – keep ‘em sweet and they’ll come back.

What are the rewards?
Viresh - it’s good money, if you are willing to work hard for it.
Sangeeta - Customers. The interaction with a range of different people is exciting. And as a previous Franchisee of the Year, it’s very rewarding to be acknowledged as the best in your field.

Ayad Behary – He liked the company so much, he bought one.

STORE: George Street, New South Wales

What was your background before joining 7-Eleven?
I graduated as a Civil Engineer in Egypt in 1982. After I finished, I moved to Australia. While studying for my Masters I worked part time at 7-Eleven. It was at this time I decided I didn’t want to be an engineer, but I did want to own my own business. And having worked for 7-Eleven I decided I’d buy into one.

What makes your franchise successful?
I really love running my own business, I get great satisfaction out of the management of my staff and store. Also 7-Eleven provides an excellent system and their products – due to the 7-Eleven’s buying power - are well priced.

What are the rewards?
Well the money obviously, but I also get a lot of pleasure from interacting with my customers. They keep things interesting.

What words of advice would you give prospective franchisees?
Know what you want – talk to franchisees before you make a decision. And be prepared to work hard.
