Schnitz unveils SA flagship restaurant

Nick Hall

Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) franchise, Schnitz unveiled its flagship South Australian outlet on Friday at Tea Tree Plaza in Adelaide.

The latest opening follows a $50m development of the Westfield site by Scentre Group, aimed at revamping the area’s dining and entertainment offering.

For family business Schnitz, founded by Roman Dyduk in 1975 as SOS Pancake & Schnitzel Hut, the latest network addition marks the brand’s first move into the state.

“Our first store in South Australia is a huge milestone for Schnitz as a brand and also for my family,” said co-founder, managing director and son, Andrew Dyduk.

“To see my father’s obsession with schnitzels grow to a family business and then expand to encompass a national network of dine-in restaurants, when 10 years ago we were just one restaurant, it’s a little bit surreal for us.”

Now with a national network of over 70 outlets, Dyduk said the integration into the high foot-traffic precinct provided Schnitz with a strong foundation to launch state-wide growth.

“South Australia is an important state for Schnitz, they’ve been crying out for us – we’ve had customers constantly contacting us asking when we would come,” Dyduk said.

“In regard to expansion, Tea Tree is our focus in South Australia at this stage, however, we’re always looking for opportunities for growth and to reach new and old fans alike. It has always been our goal to look at international markets; so much so that in the very beginning we registered the trademark in 60 countries around the world. We know that our product resonates beyond our local communities to a larger global scale.”

Multi-unit franchisees, David De Araugo, his sister Anita and partner Javier Aguado are spearheading the South Australian flagship store; the fourth restaurant in their network, and have been joined by experienced local franchisees, Stacey and Jarrod Goulding.

“We’re incredibly proud to be opening our fourth Schnitz restaurant and feel so lucky to be the first franchisee to open in South Australia,” De Araugo said.

“Schnitz is such a fantastic franchise to work with and we couldn’t be more excited about our grand opening today.”

The team’s network is set to grow again in the near future, with the opening of another Schnitz outlet in Melbourne’s South Yarra region in the coming months.

The Tea Tree Plaza restaurant is the 71st in the Schnitz franchise network and opens as part of a redeveloped food and dining precinct, alongside other franchise brands Grill’d and TGI Friday’s.
