Sandwich bar DannyBoys announces Queensland expansion plan

It’s been 10 years in the making and now sandwich bar DannyBoys has its sights set on Queensland expansion this year.

Founder and director Daniel McKennariey, who unveiled the first rockstar sandwiches store a decade ago,  says franchise buyers are interested in brand new locations as well as both the existing company-owned outlets at Kelvin Grove and Brendale.

He reports that sales at the Brendale store doubled through the pandemic thanks to the site and target demographic; the light industrial location serviced local small business owners who had to keep working and staff who had been retained through JobKeeper.

That’s the perfect clientele and location combination for the sandwich business, says Daniel.

“We target office workers and tradies in industrial areas. There’s a lunch rush, and then customers are coming in to early dinner.”

While it was initially a different story for the Kelvin Grove flagship, which relied on university students for its custom, Daniel reports the drop in sales has been reversed and figures are back on track.

The DannyBoys set up is based on food prep conducted in a separate production facility. Daniel says 90 per cent of the food is produced here, which enables the business to ensure product consistency and to keep costs low.

Looking ahead to this year’s expected growth, Daniel reveals territories are already mapped out in the Gold Coast and Brisbane region inclusing Northlakes, Newstead, Tenerife and Chermside.

Other sites may open up if potential franchisees have researched possible locations, he says.
