Salsa’s introduces under 500 calorie meal options

Sarah Stowe

Mexican food franchise Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill has added two new limited edition burritos to its menu, both of which equate to less than 500 calories.

There is a steak option, which is paired with lettuce, black beans, cabbage, onion, capsicum, chipotle sauce and coriander and wrapped up in a wholemeal tortilla, as well as a chicken burrito.

The former is similarly wrapped in a wholemeal tortilla along with lettuce, coriander, onion, capsicum, chilli and lime mayonnaise, salsa fresco and mild salsa.

The burritos are available until 2 February, only to be replaced by another healthy menu item, the Mexican summer bowl.

Comprised of grilled chicken, mixed vegetables, salsa fresco, corn, guacamole, cabbage, fresh coriander and drizzled with lime juice, the salad is worth just 265 calories.

It will be available from Salsa’s stores across the country from 3 February through to 2 March.

The move to include healthier meal options was prompted by the season – January is no doubt a time when new year’s resolutions loom in the back of everyone’s minds.

It also reflects Salsa’s desire to cater to its many female fans, as well as those with a genuine interest in low calorie options.
