Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill introduces new burrito

Sarah Stowe

Mexican food franchise Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill has just released Chica Chia, a new burrito that forms part of its lighter menu options.

The name takes its cue from both the Spanish language – Chica means ‘girl’ in Spanish, and the humble chia seed, a superfood that can be found in the burrito’s tortilla.

The burrito is comprised of chicken, guacamole, chipotle salsa, lettuce and salsa fresco, which is made of freshly diced tomatoes, red onion, coriander and lime juice.

Rather than opt for a white tortilla, Salsa’s has decided to wrap these ingredients in a black chia seed tortilla.

Chia seeds have risen to fame of late and Salsa’s is looking to educate its customers about the health benefits of these tiny seeds.

They contain a number of vitamins and minerals including calcium, zinc, phosphorous, manganese, magnesium and iron.

They are also rich in omega-3 and amino acids and high in protein, fibre and essential amino acids.

Jake Spencer, general manager, Salsa’s returned to the Retail Zoo family after a stint at Coles just in time to sample the new product, which he said “tastes amazing.”

The Chica Chia burrito is now available at Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill stores.
