Ninja Parc franchisee, school teacher turned obstacle course owner

Sarah Stowe

For Eleni Szemeti, owner of the Ninja Parc franchise in Bayswater, Victoria, it was her very first career that ultimately landed her exactly where she is today.

The former high school teacher was inspired by the idea of encouraging youngsters to keep fit.

“As a teacher I saw so many kids not being active. The sports offered at school don’t suit all kids – not every child wants to play a team sport or be an athlete. There have to be more options available to kids,” says Eleni.

And that’s where indoor obstacle course franchise Ninja Parc came in.

“When I saw it, I instantly connected with the idea and thought this is something I can be truly passionate about.”

Eleni left teaching to have her children and kept working in the family fencing business – but something was missing.

“I am a real people’s person and I was missing that human interaction.

“I love what I do now – seeing the smiles on the kids faces, getting to know the parents and knowing I am making a small difference in these kids’ lives.”

Eleni’s passion is showing in the results her franchise is achieving. In the first two weeks of opening in January 2021, over 2000 casual play sessions had been booked at her facility and 39 birthday parties scheduled.

Eleni’s tips for launching a successful franchise

Do your due diligence

The devil is in the details and things will come undone if you’re not dealing with a reputable franchisor. The right franchisor, on the other hand, will help alleviate so much of the launch pressure, especially if you’re going into an industry you haven’t worked in before.

Hire the right staff

Who is ‘right’ depends on your particular business. For Eleni, it means people who love kids and are enthusiastic.

Know your demographics

Every franchise is slightly different depending on its location, potential customers and local competition. If you understand that well, you can target them accordingly.

Be passionate

You’ll love what you do and that will shine through. You’ll attract customers and enjoy each day you’re at work.
