A New Zealand-based burger franchise is expanding in the United States after fears it would never happen. Find out which brand has made the breakthrough.

BurgerFuel is opening its first store in the United States midwest after setting sights on Australia and New Zealand last year.

According to a report by Fairfax Media, the death of Subway founder Fred DeLuca _last year created significant challenges which delayed the launch of BurgerFuel in the United States.

The franchised brand has also ended its agreement with Subway and Franchise Brands, which BurgerFuel had been working with to enter the market. Franchise Brands group will retain 10 percent in BurgerFuel Worldwide and also maintain its position on the BurgerFuel board.

“We are confident that we will get something off the ground in America soon and that our goal of opening in the USA will still be fulfilled,” said Josef Roberts, CEO.

A United States development team is now based in Indianapolis where the first BurgerFuel restaurant is set to open.
