UFG targets Australia with new food franchise

American sandwich sub franchise, Jon Smith Subs have announced international expansion plans for the land “Down Under” at the recent Sydney Trade Show.

The fast-food concept store is part of the United Franchise Group’s (UFG) affiliated companies and brands.

Ray Titus, CEO of United Franchise Group, said the decision to target Australia was a strategic and timely move for the brand.

“This is a wonderfully exciting time and a great opportunity for the Jon Smith Subs franchise to grow internationally,” Titus said.

“It’s a natural fit for the brand to expand to Australia as UFG has a large presence with our corporate office located in Sydney. Like many of our other brands, Jon Smith Subs will be expanding into most of Australia’s major markets including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Darwin, among others.”

The franchise model has proven to be a success in the US, with the brand seeing extraordinary growth across locations in South and Central Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Nevada, Texas, and California.

The announced total investment to open a location in Australia will range from $350,000 to $500,000, with in many cases, financing available.

Evan Foster, Director of Established Brands in UFG’s Australia office, said the group is dedicated to providing potential franchisees with the tools for success.

“United Franchise Group is dedicated to the success of each location and has the systems and people in place to provide world-class training, operations and marketing support,” Foster said.

Looking beyond Australia, UFG also plans to take the franchise global, with Master License Partner agreements in place for United Kingdom, Portugal, South Africa, and Colombia.

Scott Stuck, President of Jon Smith Subs, credits the franchise’s success to its franchisee model and dedication to food quality.

The brand is renowned for its marinated sirloin steak subs, but also features marinated grilled chicken subs, specialties from the grill, giant deli subs, salads, side options and a kid’s menu that includes a combo meal.
