Tips from the top: Myer chief Bernie Brookes

Sarah Stowe

Technology and innovation are the solution to the retail challenge. That’s according to Myer’s Bernie Brookes, who shared his views of leadership as a keynote speaker at the NFC13 at the Gold Coast recently.

“There’s no doubt the ability to innovate and use technology is very important. The lure of comfort stifles innovation,” Brookes warned the audience.

Brookes has clocked up more than 35 years working within the retail industry in local and international roles in India and China.

Appointed chief executive officer and managing director of the Myer Group in June 2006, he has been responsible for the turnaround and rebuilding of the Myer business, leading the development and implementation of the Myer five-point strategic plan, repositioning the business to meet today’s challenges and investing for the future.

At the NFC13 he shared his thoughts on management with the gathering of franchisors, franchisees and service providers.
