Snap-on management sees value in the business

Phil Chandler, product manager at Snap-on Tools, has traded in his management role for a more relaxed lifestyle as a franchisee in Bathurst.

Chandler has been in the company for approximately 27 years, starting as a franchisee in the UK before moving to Australia and becoming sales manager, then product manager.

According to Nick Hudson, national franchise manager, having someone from the management team leave to become a franchisee in the same system is not that uncommon.

“We’ve had two or three senior managers over the last few years buy a franchise for themselves – giving up their employed position to become a franchisee. So I guess it stands as a great testimony to the strength of our franchise program,” said Hudson.

Hudson says Chandler, who is in his early 60s, was ready for a seachange, knows the business back-to-front and “knows that you can make a lot of money in a Snap-on franchise.”

Snap-on Tools, which imports and distributes tools to professional tool users from mobile stores, is currently looking for new franchisees to facilitate the franchise’s expansion in Australia.

“We have more customers than we can service,” Hudson said. “Which is why we need some more franchisees. We’ve got 160 of our mobile stores on the road in Australia and New Zealand right now, but we have territories available predominantly in NSW and Victoria.”
