SA expansion for nation’s largest teeth whitening company

Australia’s largest teeth whitening company, Sparkling White Smile has expanded its franchise network into South Australia.

The mobile-unit brand was established just four years and currently holds six agreements in major cities across the country, with the Adelaide site its latest inclusion.

The growth comes after a boom in the teeth whitening industry, which is now valued at over $3 billion worldwide.

Alison Egan, Sparkling White Smile founder and director said the latest announcement furthered the brand’s commitment to Australia-wide expansion, and comes after continued success in the franchise sector.

“We’ve very early days but at the moment we get around 50 franchising inquiries a day; I went from five clients a week to averaging nearly 3000 clients a week,” Egan said.

“Obviously, we have the desire the go international, but we’re focusing on Australia first. As we continue to grow, I’ll take on an advisory board to help direct our future expansion plans”.

It’s been whirlwind period of growth for Egan and the brand, which evolved from just one staff member to ten within five months, however the 24-year-old concedes that franchising wasn’t the initial goal.

“I was going to go into training people in teeth whitening, and that was going to be my next step, but I didn’t know the legal side (of training regulations and certifications),” Egan said.

Following advice from her accountant, Egan established a franchise model that focused on low-entry costs and network support, before presenting the concept to her staff.

“Because I have about 29 staff working for me across Australia, I offered every single one of them their own franchise, because I believe if they are good enough to work for me, they are good enough to run a franchise. I only took on people that had that entrepreneurial mindset,” Egan said.

In the ten months that have passed since the franchise model was established, four Sparkling White Smile employees have taken up the offer, however, the South Australian location marks a significant milestone for the brand as the first Sparkling White Smiles non-internal franchisee.

“The ones who have worked for me, the franchise agreement was so much easier to sell, because they already know the know the brand, they already know the systems and they already know me as a person,” Egan said.

2019 sees Sparkling White Smile continue to develop its franchise network, with Egan citing national growth as the company’s primary focus.

“We’re in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast with the aim of selling 500 franchise locations in Australia,” Egan said.
