Food and coffee franchisor, Retail Food Group, has achieved a net profit of $25.3m in the first six months of financial year 2015. This is an increase of 46.4 percent over the previous corresponding period.

The company owns household names in the franchise food sector including Brumby’s, Crust Gourmet Pizza, Donut King and Michel’s Patisserie and last year the business added more coffee chains to the group.

RFG chairman Colin Archer said “The acquisition of Cafe2U and Gloria Jean’s Coffees Group, supported by sustained organic growth amongst the company’s existing brand systems, has driven network population to 2,476 outlets across 45 international territories.”

Archer believes the strategy has brought significant benefit to franchisees.

“In terms of network scale and penetration, the comany’s 1H15 activities represent a revolution for shareholders and franchisees, providing immediate access to international markets and increased supply chain capability.”

RFG developed the portfolio’s supply element with the addition of Di Bella coffee. Archer said this complements the newly acquired coffee retail brands “whilst advancing RFG’s strategy to penetrate the whole spectrum of coffee markets including: within the franchise system; in home; contract roasting; and specialty coffee markets.”

CEO Tony Alford retported that each of the company’s brands has seen an increase in both same store sales and average transaction value during the the six month; Donut King achieved a 23.3 percent increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA). Michel’s saw a 4.6 percent average weekly sales increase.

Overall the company has a buoyant outlook. Alford said “Coffee and allied products remain a significant opportunity to be exploited, particularly in terms of enhanced international penetration and the establishment of a more robust service platform to better leverage the scale afforded by the company’s third party wholesale customer base.”
