At PoolWerx we have coined a term that defines what makes a good franchisee – intrapreneurial. This is a person with the drive, passion and commitment to run their own business with the foresight and understanding of the benefits of working with proven systems.
They possess high levels of motivation, integrity and discipline which they strive to apply to their new business life as a franchisee.
Successful franchisees also select a business model that reflects their skill set, personal and business values and overall interests. For example, a PoolWerx franchisee’s work can include a lot of outdoor activity and dealing with people. Some franchisees identify with this type of work but for someone who doesn’t like dealing with people our business would not be the best selection for them.
We encourage all potential franchisees to be honest about what type of work they like and want to do. The benefit of franchising is that the systems are proven and can be taught no matter what your experience but commitment to follow through and push on when the going gets tough comes from within. Our experience shows the franchisees that have matched the business model to their skill set have this vital quality.
The other key qualities we look for in candidates include possessing good communication skills, a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn and to be able to add value and growth to the company in the long term. It is also important that candidates are aligned with a company’s values, are willing to follow the systems developed and are proud to be a part of the franchise.
Franchisors and their franchisees have worked extremely hard to get their business to where it is today. None of us are willing to risk our brand or reputation by taking on someone who isn’t 100 per cent sure about joining the franchise.
A good franchisee has to be committed to the business model in the long term and is able, and willing, to do what is needed to make it work.
