Poolwerx backs Home Pool Safety Weekend

Sarah Stowe

Franchise pool business PoolWerx and Royal Life Saving are urging all Australians to check the backyard swimming pool for ÔHome Pool Safety WeekendÕ as the latest figures released today show that in the past year 32 young children aged up to four died in preventable drowning tragedies, with 59 percent of the deaths in swimming pools.

National pool and spa care franchise network PoolWerx is the national sponsor of the ÔKeep WatchÕ program which aims to eliminate child drowning through targeted education and awareness programs.

PoolWerx CEO John OÕBrien (above left with RLSSA Ambassador Sam Reilly and RLSSA CEO Rob Bradley) said the network of approximately 300 retail hubs and mobile service vans across Australia was united in helping promote the vital ÔKeep WatchÕ message.

“Our entire network shares the vision of a commitment to targeting zero preventable backyard drowning deaths. WeÕre working with clients to ensure Australian backyard pools are safe, healthy swimming environments. There are no second chances with children near pools. If we can help save the life of just one little one — well, how do you put a price on that?”

John OÕBrien added that he wanted all pool owners to understand the key to enjoying a safe summer by the pool was to supervise, learn resuscitation, familiraise your child with water and ensure the pool surroundings are clear.

“Keep Watch means constant active supervision, not an occasional glance so that you can have great fun over summer.”
