Franchise business Hotondo Homes celebrated three decades in the building industry at the network’s convention in September.

When the business started in 1979 in Deniliquin, New South Wales, the aim was to specialise in the public housing sector but in 1993 it was restructured as a franchising network. The franchise provides tools for small and medium builders to be able to match the power of large scale volume builders that increasingly dominate the market.

In 1987, Hotondo Homes had moved its headquarters to Melbourne and become the third largest home builder in Victoria.

Looking back, managing director Michael Renwick said, “The franchise has been successful as we recognise and understand the needs of small and medium builders, as they want to remain independent and provide quality customer service, and we allow them to do so with added support to assist them and help them grow”.

Over the past 30 years, Hotondo Homes has received many industry awards from both the Housing Industry Association and the Master Builder Association, and in 2008 was proud to be the first building company in Australia to win the Franchise Council of Australia’s prestigious Franchisor of the Year award in the service category.
