Healthiest and tastiest pizzas in Choice report

Franchise pizza brand Domino’s has scored well in a recent Choice Magazine report into healthy and tasty pizzas, with its Good Choice range highlighted as the healthiest pizzas overall for a national brand.

Crust Gourmet Pizza was noted for its Healthy Choice pizzas which have achieved the Heart Foundation’s Tick of Approval but was not considered overall because it is not a national chain.

Choice compared more than 190 brands and flavours available nationally from takeaway chains and supermarkets, comparing the overall taste, energy, total fat, saturated fat and sodium for each.

Domino’s recorded the lowest in energy and total fat per 100g and was one of the lowest in saturated fat and sodium per 100g. Pizza Hut pizzas were cited as the most unhealthy overall.

However the Pizza Hut Veggie Supreme Perfecto Crust topped the taste test of the healthiest pizza from each brand, scoring 56 percent, with Domino’s Good Choice Chicken, Tomato and Oregano Ciabbatta second at 55 percent, and Eagle Boys Zesty Lemon and Prawn scoring 52 percent.

Domino’s CEO Don Meij said “We worked tirelessly to ensure our Good Choice Range pizzas tasted great before we launched them. Pizza is a treat and therefore it should be tasty, not bland or flavourless. We needed to make sure we had the right amount of balance nutritionally without compromising on taste,” he said.
