Domino’s boosts franchise development

Sarah Stowe

Pizza franchise business Domino’s has restructured its development and franchise department to match demand for new franchise sites.

Heading up the operation is Pat McMichael, formerly the brand’s franchise development manager for Australia and New Zealand, and now chief development and franchising officer. In his new role he has responsibility for all new store development projects across the two countries, and franchise recruitment.

McMichael joined Domino’s 20 years ago and has had a variety of roles including store manager, franchisee, national property manager, market manager and international business consultant.

“We have welcomed more than 22 new franchisees to the Domino’s business over the past six months and we expect to see a lot more before Christmas,” he said.

Last year the focus was on growing the Melbourne market. This year the push for a regional presence continues with optional franchise models offered by the pizza firm.

“We have already seen huge success in adapting our store design to suit different locations. For example we now have our Domino’s 2 Go model in 23 stadiums and three theme parks across Australia. These stores are trading very well and are opening the Domino’s brand to new customers which is helping build sales growth. The uniqueness of these locations allows for either a seven day or event day trading model.”

There are 522 Domino’s stores across Australia and New Zealand, making more than 50 million pizzas annually.
