Diversity on a plate – dine in or takeaway

Sarah Stowe

Fully flavoured franchising: a diet of ethnic fare ensures the Australian franchising scene offers opportunities for all tastes, whether they are Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Mexican or European; fast food or casual dining. It is a mark of the spread of a cuisine into the national menu across the country that a small cafe, takeaway or dine-in restaurant can form the basis for an interstate network of dining outlets, each providing a franchising opportunity.

Cuisine from around the world is on the franchising menu.

Taste of Mexico: Boost International bought into the Salsa’s offer in 2008 and is dishing up freshly made burritos, nachos, tacos and salads.

Mad Mex and Guzman Y Gomez are Sydney-based eateries which started on the franchise path late 2009.

Asia Pacific: Han’s Cafe was founded by Vietnamese refugee Ian Han 15 years ago. His franchise network now counts 14 restaurants in Perth with plans for 11 more in the region.

Go Sushi serves up the healthy snack in shopping centres around Australia. One of its sibling brands is Beard Papa, a Japanese doughnut concept.

Flavour focused: Concentrating on just one element of a cuisine, Nando’s gives a cheeky edge to chicken with its Portuguese peri-peri flavouring in family-friendly restaurants.
