Deliveroo targets chains with new initiative

Food delivery service Deliveroo has announced it will bring its Marketplace+ program to Australian shores in September, enabling businesses with their own rider fleets to join the platform.

The new initiative has the potential to effectively double Deliveroo’s network of restaurant partners from 6000 to 12,000, by allowing franchise businesses and restaurant chains that operate their own rider fleets to utilise both in-house and Deliveroo delivery fleets.

Levi Aron, Deliveroo Australia country manager said Marketplace+ was the first step in securing dominant market-share following Foodora’s much publicised exit from the region.

“Our ambition is to become the definitive food company and this is a vital part of achieving that aim,” Aron said.

“This service will allow Australian restaurants to fulfil more orders at times of high customer demand and extend the times that they can offer delivery services, meaning more amazing food will be available to more people more often.”

Deliveroo currently operates across ten Australian cities, including capital cities and regional centres such as Geelong and Woolongong. Marketplace+ enables restaurants to expand into areas where Deliveroo does not currently operate.

The service is already available in the UK, France, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium. Deliveroo said it plans to roll out the service across all markets.
