New Zealand is set to get even colder after ice-cream innovators Ben & Jerry’s announced plans to further expand in the land of the long white cloud.

Citing Christchurch and Queenstown as the brand’s major franchise location targets, national retail operations manager Sean Farrell said developing the New Zealand network was critical to Ben & Jerry’s franchise success.

“Christchurch is a beautiful, iconic city and we just could not ignore the enthusiasm that we saw when the team stopped there during their sampling tour earlier this year,” Farrell said.

After launching in the U.S. more than 40 years ago, Ben & Jerry’s opened its inaugural New Zealand franchise location in December 2015.

The continued success of Auckland’s Mission Bay location has the brand looking to further expand its footprint in the country, suggesting its social mission “really aligns with the forward thinking culture in New Zealand”.

“The thriving success of this location has laid the foundations for growth into the South Island, it is looking like the next Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Store will be in Christchurch, closely followed by Queenstown,” Ben & Jerry’s said in a press release.

The announcement marks a dedicated approach to diversifying Ben & Jerry’s Australian and New Zealand network, with the brand looking to open 20 new stores across the region by 2020.

Ben & Jerry’s Christchurch store will open over the Summer season, between November 2018 and February 2019, however Queenstown’s opening is yet to be confirmed.
