McDonald’s boosts US employees benefits and trials all-day breakfast

Fast food giant McDonald’s will be boosting benefits for employees at its company-owned restaurants in the US, including a wage increase and paid time-off for full and part-time staff.

And an educational program, Archways to Opportunities, will expand to provide eligible employees (at both franchised and company-owned outlets) with free high school completion and college tuition assistance.

Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s president and CEO, said “We’ve listened to our employees and learned that – in addition to increased wages – paid personal leave and financial assistance for completing their education would make a real difference in their careers and lives.”

On 1 July 2015, starting wages at McDonald’s US company-owned outlets will be one dollar above the locally-mandated wage, and crew employees with at least one year of service will begin to accrue personal paid time-off.

The 3,100 plus franchisees will continue to make their own decisions on pay and benefits for their employees.

The news comes as McDonald’s announces its customers in the San Diego in the US will be the first to try out an all-day breakfast menu next month.

The concept is in response to customers who want to consume breakfast items such as McMuffins and hash browns after 10.30am. Logistical issues have previously been cited for the separation of breakfast and dinner menus.

According to NewsCorp, there are no plans for the all-day breakfast to be served in Australia.
