Kilojoules marked on The Coffee Club’s menu nationally

Customers can now get a calorie count served along with their meals at The Coffee Club. The franchise coffee chain has introduced a new menu featuring the total kilojoules next to every meal.

It is already mandatory in South Australia for restaurant chains with more than 50 outlets to display the total number of kilojoules in menu items and similar regulation is due to come in across New South Wales next year. However, The Coffee Club has highlighted the kilojoules count of its food on all its menus in every state.

The Coffee Club director John Lazarou said “By having the kilojoule totals visible on all of our menus, we will give customers confidence when making their choices when they dine with us.”

Executive chef at The Coffee Club, Dan Forrest, said “AustraliaÕs need to reduce obesity and improve eating habits has become a necessity and we believe as both food lovers and creators we have a responsibility to uphold a certain standard. The kilojoule counters are the beginning of a better health standard across all restaurants in Australia and we are happy to lead the way.”

The new menu has been rolled out into every store and The Coffee Club will also be adding the kilojoule count for each of its coffees to menus in NSW in early 2012.
