Just Cuts franchisees have backed  R U OK? day today, wearing yellow to spread the message from the Aussie suicide prevention charity that conversation can be life-changing.

Salon decorations and social media tiles also helped to to champion the charity in salons this week.

The theme for R U OK Day 2020 was to encourage people to #stayconnected with each other.

CEO of Just Cuts, Amber Manning, said stylists are natural ambassadors for the cause.

“Being a stylist sometimes means also being a confidant, as we know that engaging conversations can be an important part of making our clients look and feel great about themselves,” Amber said.

“Our stylists have a unique power during the pandemic, touch. The styling chair is a stage and every Style Cut is an opportunity to engage with clients, helping them stay connected during Covid-19.”

Amber pointed to the challenges for the community, including franchisees who are unable to trade right now because of Covid restrictions.

“It’s a scary time right now for many in our community, particularly our Victorian franchise owners who face closures until October 26.”

Amber acknowledged the importance of R U OK Day in helping people deal with a difficult conversation; many people don’t know what to say next after hearing someone is struggling, she said.

“A conversation can change a life. If someone sits in our chairs and says they’re not ok we keep the conversation going, from kids stressed at school to adults dealing with work or family pressure.

“Meaningful conversations are vital. They build trust and break down barriers, which is something our stylists do every day for clients by simply following their gut instincts.

“There’s so much more we can say after asking R U OK?” said Amber.
