Jim’s Mowing, the business that grew an empire

Sarah Stowe

Jim’s Mowing franchise – a business that sparked an empire, turning Aussies into small business owners around the country.

It’s the original garden business that spawned a multitude of Jim’s branded options – Jim’s Mowing was the idea that started it all.

That was back in 1989 and now, 32 years later, Jim’s is a household name across Australia.

One of the benefits of the brand reach that Jim’s has is that more than 80 per cent of the company’s leads are driven by reputation and referral, rather than advertising.

So what’s the deal? It’s still a starter-level franchise, providing the opportunity for Aussies to become their own bosses without the need for a massive investment. Just $20,000 to $50,000 will buy you a business – the cost depending on what trailer and equipment is required.

It’s a business that offers both gardening and landscaping services to residential and commercial clients.

And the sky is the limit, says the company, when it comes to earning potential.  The money you make will depend on how ambitious you are for your business – there is the opportunity to build up a successful clientele and then split the territory, selling off to another franchisee so you can maximise your profit potential.

Training is conducted at the Melbourne head office.

Franchisee John Frost from Sunshine North values the money and the freedom, working his own hours.

“Having my own business allows me to work when I want to and also allows me the opportunity to make decisions as I see fit. The opportunities to expand my business have been endless. I now employ two additional staff consisting of a full timer and an apprentice. The sky is the limit as to how much you want your business to grow.”
