Aussie expansion drives mega growth for Gold’s Gym

Global fitness franchise Gold’s Gym has finished 2019 with a bang, reporting its biggest year to date.

According the Gold’s Gym President and CEO Adam Zeitsiff, the brand achieved a record-setting 22 franchise agreements in its home country, launching a total of 35 new gyms across the globe.

“This past year of success serves as proof that the Gold’s Gym franchise opportunity is more attractive than ever as an investment in the fitness industry,” Zeitsiff said.

“Our continued franchise development achievements from 2019 have set the stage for what we anticipate will be another impressive year of growth on a global scale. With our signature programming we’re providing on a global scale, I look forward to what this new year will bring as we continue our focus on delivering the Gold’s Gym experience to our members.”

The new network announcement comes less than six months after the brand unveiled plans to launch a massive 30 new studios in Australia.

A new partnership with local investment group Colour Capital was behind the expansion update, which also include a 10-location deal in New Zealand.

Matt Hope, Colour Capital CEO said the opportunity to steer the Gold’s Gym Australia expansion was too good to pass up.

“As we researched options for expanding our portfolio by stepping into the health and wellness space, we immediately recognised an opportunity in the fitness markets of Australia and New Zealand that only the legendary Gold’s Gym brand can fulfil,” he said.

“In the months since we began working with Gold’s Gym, we’ve already seen what an invaluable resource this experienced team’s support will be to us, and we are excited to continue our efforts with them as we work to grow the brand’s presence in these two countries.”

2020 plans

Now boasting more than 700 locations across the globe, the iconic US fitness chain is gearing up for a bumper 2020.

Craig Sherwood, Gold’s Gym chief development officer said the latest results were the perfect lead-in the next stage of brand growth.

“As we head into 2020, I feel we are equipped with the perfect recipe for success: the right corporate leaders, the right franchisees and the right business model,” he said

“With some major expansion opportunities already in the works, my team and I are proud to play a role in continuing to grow this brand 55 years beyond its inception.”
