Shingle Inn has been in business 80 yearsAs it celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, Shingle Inn cafe has appointed an operations manager to help build recognition and strength of the brand in new markets across Australia.

Michael Walker has joined the Shingle Inn franchise primarily to add value to the brand by focusing on key issues such as franchise profitability and brand compliance, which in turn will benefit the customers of each cafe around Australia.

“I was particularly attracted to the Shingle Inn brand, which is so rich in history and has such a unique business model within the cafe/hospitality industry. I particularly love the uniqueness and the old style ‘Aussie’ feel of the stores,” he said.

“The greatest asset of Shingle Inn is absolutely the people (the customers, store teams and support office team). I can see now that I simply need to tap into the history and experience across the brand to find solutions and inspiration.”

Walker was previously the national operations manager for cafe retailer Mrs Fields Bakery and Cafe, where he achieved a 10 percent increase in spend and a 10 percent increase in frequency (customer count). He was also responsible for the planning, implementation and roll out of a new cafe concept, where he achieved double digit sales growth for existing stores.
