Announced Tuesday, franchise giant Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store confirms the future of fast-food is officially cashless.

The trial sees five Australian stores take all forms of payment bar cash, in an effort to increase customer convenience.

Nick Knight, Australia and New Zealand CEO said the decision to trail cashless stores highlighted Domino’s commitment to innovation.

“The Domino’s ethos has always been about increasing convenience for our customers – even being the first pizza company in Australia to offer home delivery all those years ago,” Knight said.

“Our Tap & Take stores will enable our customers to get piping hot meals faster than ever; reducing in-store queues and delivery wait times.

How to use Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store

Customers trialling a Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store simply need to tap their card, phone, smart watch or finger on the keyboard before collecting their purchase.

Knight said aside from boosting customer experience, the Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store will increase team member safety.

“In addition to increasing convenience for our customers this new model will increase safety, with zero cash kept on the premises or carried by our delivery experts,” he said.

Cashless ventures

Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store isn’t the only cashless initiative on the franchise market. In June, convenience franchise 7-Eleven unveiled its ‘scan and go’ concept store in Richmond, Victoria.

Following a successful trial, Knight expects more franchise chains to jump on-board with the cashless payment model. The CEO said it was important for brands to remain agile and innovative in the face of evolving consumer demand.

“With the growth of tap-and-go payment systems and mobile payment technology, use of cash is slowing and we’re seeing that right across our network.”

“We’re now heading towards a very real future where the legal tender could be solely electronic, so it’s important that we remain digitally agile and continue to meet consumer demands.”

Domino’s ‘Tap & Take Only’ concept store trial will commence in Domino’s Newtown (NSW), Coffs Harbour (NSW), Wauchope (NSW), Calamvale (QLD) and Surfers Paradise South (QLD) from Tuesday 9 July 2019.
