The latest on the Cinnabon Australian expansion

Nick Hall

The announcement that U.S. bakery chain Cinnabon was entering the Australian market had pastry fans on high alert. Now, the Cinnabon Australian expansion is gathering steam, with the brand looking to launch its inaugural location.

Back in January, Inside Franchise Business reported that Carl’s Jr. franchisee, Bansal Group had secured the rights for the chain.

Operating out of South-East Queensland, the group announced it would launch Cinnabon in its home state before expanding south. The Bansal Group initially targeted a goal of 50 Cinnabons over the next three years.

Three months on, Gaurav Bansal, director of The Bansal Group shared with Inside Franchise Business the latest on the Cinnabon Australian expansion and what’s next for the brand.

“Our immediate goals are awareness and market introduction,” Bansal said. “There’s nothing like Cinnabon in Australia, and just like Carl’s Jr., we knew the nostalgia for the brand would create the opener we needed for people to fall in love with the brand.”

Cinnabon Australian expansion public response

Bansal said the overwhelming response to the initial announcement was something the group was keen to capitalise on.

“We knew there would be some excited Australians, but we weren’t expecting the massive reaction it got nationwide,” he said.

“The wheels are turning, and we’ll be making some announcements regarding initial locations soon. We’re also currently fielding franchisee enquiries.”

The Bansal Group has flagged Sydney as the desired location for the second site in the Cinnabon Australian expansion. However, all efforts are focused on the South-East Queensland launch.

“Every successful launch depends on our ability to train a great team who will keep our customers coming back, both for the service and quality,” Bansal said.

“Most Americans can see one of our storefronts and instantly be reminded of the incredible and unique flavours awaiting them at Cinnabon. We want that for Australia, as well.”
