Back In Motion launches virtual physio

Sarah Stowe

Back In Motion Health Group has launched a Telehealth service, giving clients access to physiotherapy services via video chat from home.

The chain of more than 130 physiotherapists across Australia and New Zealand is also discounting its standard fees for Telehealth appointments. This is to ensure their clients don’t fall behind in their treatment throughout the coronavirus crisis.

While the timing is a response to the impact of COVID-19, Back In Motion had already noticed growing demand for video consultation services.

The option is particularly beneficial for patients in rural and remote areas, or who have difficulty accessing on-site services because of age or disability.

Back In Motion founder Jason T. Smith said “As surprising as it may sound physiotherapists can perform many of the manual assessments they conduct in practices by using video observation.

“Physios can also take a full history, provisionally diagnose your injuries and health concerns, give comprehensive advice, supervise exercise therapy and educate you about self-treatment options.”

Not all private health insurers provide a rebate for physiotherapy services delivered via video consultation. However Smith believes this is likely to change with growing pressure in response to COVID-19.

Clients can access the service with a computer or smart device with an internet connection and camera. Back In Motion will send a text message with a secure ID login and access to a private video consultation with the customer’s choice of physio.
