The Local Shack recruiting in WA and VIC

Sarah Stowe

The Local Shack is a Western Australia-based casual dining chain looking to excite tastebuds with its range of gourmet burgers, ribs, steaks, wings and all-day breakfast. The model also offers all things liquor including beer on tap, spirits and ciders to name a few.

Chloe Debono, who heads up recruitment, said the brand “started franchising about three months ago” and is looking to franchise its five existing outlets in Western Australia.

Another three franchises are projected in Melbourne, Victoria in the next few years. Metropolitan sites will be targeted at this stage.

“Westfield sites are not viable for our product,” she explained. This is because high rents make profits a challenge.

The initial investment of a Greenfield site ranges from $450,000 – $700,000 depending on the size of the site, however existing sites will attract a higher initial investment.

“Existing sites come with a 50 percent return on investment, and we have the financials to prove that,” she added.

Franchisees pay a four percent national marketing fee, as well as a one percent local area marketing fee (both annual). Ongoing support from the franchisor is also included.

Ideal franchisees have a business acumen and can integrate “like a family” with the franchisor and network.
