Tax Office launches SME online forum

Sarah Stowe

Small or medium enterprises such as franchises now have a new way to talk with the Tax Office. The SME Online Tax Forum is an interactive online community for SME business owners to discuss business and tax issues, participate in polls or surveys, and join live chats with senior Tax Office executives.

The Tax Office is using feedback from forum participants to better understand the issues SME business operators face when managing their tax affairs.

The SME Communicator is a regular online news service that informs about tax changes that might affect small businesses and this will be released in late October.

Other products being developed include a webinar (online seminar) on fringe benefits tax which will be trialled later this year with forum members.

Tax Office assistant commissioner Michael Hardy will be the special guest at the next live chat and will join forum members to discuss trusts on Thursday, 22 October.

Other topics for discussion in the coming months include the organisation of information on the Tax Office website, international tax issues and business structure, and capital gains tax.
