3 niche fitness brands flexing their muscles right now

Sarah Stowe

A renewed post-pandemic focus on health and fitness is powering fitness franchises. Here are three niche fitness brands who are bulking up their business.

Cyclebar

It started trading in Australia last year but this indoor premium cycling chain has a history in the US going back 17 years. And it is expanding globally, with more than 200 outlets open.

A step up from the spin cycling class at the local gym, this concept brings high-energy solutions and certified instructors to a cardio workout, backed with great music.

As you’d expect, buying in to a first class concept requires substantial investment, think $300,000 to $500,000.

Franchisees sign up for one 10 year term and have two five-year renewal options.

Stretch Lab

The Stretch Lab won’t raise the heartbeat but it will keep clients healthy and mobile. Tapping into the growing wellness trend around the world, this business from the US only recently arrived on our shores.

It’s been brought out here by the same Aussie master franchisee who is operating the CycleBar franchise as both of them share a US parent company.

The concept is to address and redress body concerns and niggles that reduce mobility and function, with one-on-one stretch sessions.

In the US the business is growing fast, and as a fledgling business in Australia, expect it to take off as wellness treatments become embedded in Aussie fitness culture.

It will cost between $150,000 and $200,000 to buy a franchise.

9Round Fitness

Not quite a round in the ring, not quite a gym workout, 9Round combines the benefits of circuit training with kickboxing techniques.

It’s fast, and it’s furious – there are no class start times – a new 30-minute circuit begins every three minutes.

9Round was founded in the US back in 2008 by kickboxer Shannon Hudson and today is part of the Lift Brands family (which also operates 24/7 gym chain Snap Fitness).

The business has been operating in Australia for six years, and now has 19 studios open, and plenty of potential with opportunities around the country.

To buy a 9Round franchise will cost between $150, 000 and $250,000.
