Why this aesthetics chain is shaking up the industry

Sarah Stowe

Want to open your own laser clinic? Well look no further, because one brand is set to revolutionise the Australian aesthetic market and is looking for franchisees to help lead the charge. And the good news is, there’s no experience required.

Sarah Oram, founder and managing director of Unique Laser clinics was working overseas for a large corporate strategy firm when she discovered ground-breaking technology for laser hair removal.

“Europe is so much more advanced than Australia for laser hair removal,” she says. “I did my research on the Australian market and realised that the technology I had come across barely existed in the market, so I secured exclusive rights to it in Australia.”

Her research also revealed that the non-surgical aesthetic market was booming down under and that Australia’s per capita spend on non-surgical cosmetic treatments was the among the highest in the world.

According to the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia, Australians spent around $1 billion in 2015 on non-surgical cosmetic services, up from $773 million in 2012. And Oram believes this trend is set to continue, given the huge potential market of men and women aged between 15 to 65.

“Cosmetic injections and advanced skin treatments are a fast-growing market as treatments become mainstream and with technology advances,” she says.

Impressed by the market’s potential, Oram abandoned her corporate career and set about researching and adding complementary treatments to her mix, such as cosmetic injections, skin treatments, fat loss cavitation and LED teeth whitening.

Over several years, Oram and her team of medical and skin experts developed a winning business model. It involves providing the highest quality laser hair removal and skin treatments at affordable prices.

Her efforts have paid off and are being recognised, with Unique Laser picking up the 2016 Emerging Business and 2017 Health and Wellbeing awards.

The company now has two corporate-owned clinics and one franchise and plans to open 40 clinics over the next four years.

Oram is looking to partner with people from all walks of life who share the brand values, who want to take control of their lives and are able to lead and motivate staff to achieve goals.

She says Unique Laser’s culture is centred on changing people’s lives. “We want franchisees to enjoy building their business and community profile.”

So what differentiates Unique Laser from the rest of the pack?

Firstly, it is a more affordable franchise proposition. “Up until now, potential business owners have needed $600,000-$900,000 to own 100 per cent of the business. But we have developed a unique business model that allows people to own their own business for half that cost,” Oram explains.

The initial investment required is between $100,000 to $450,000.

Franchisees have exclusive access to the newest, fastest lasers in the world, which allows them to operate more profitably and produce much better results for clients than traditional lasers.

Added to that, franchisees benefit from a branding and marketing strategy which Oram believes sets it apart.

“Unique Laser is run by personable, savvy business and marketing experts who along with their team support franchisees with everything they need to run a successful business,” she says.

“We are also committed to upholding the highest standards in the cosmetic industry as set by the Australian Medical Board and have partnered with Australia’s leading cosmetic doctors to ensure we do so.”
