Wendy’s Supa Sundaes creditors meeting

Sarah Stowe

Thirty four franchised Wendy’s stores may need to sign new franchise agreements and four company owned and operated stores have closed as a result of Wendy’s Supa Sundaes going into administration.

Following the first creditors meeting of the former food franchisor Wendy’s Supa Sundaes Pty Ltd, voluntary administrator Ferrier Hodgson reported that 141 of the franchised store network had been assigned to Supatreats Australia, the current licensee of the brand in Australia and New Zealand.

However the remaining 34 outlets may be unable to continue to use the brand’s intellectual property unless they enter a new franchise agreement with Supatreats Australia.

It is understood Supatreates Austrailia is liaising with some of these non-assigned franchisees to discuss new agreements.

Ferrier Hodgson partner Martin Lewis said “It’s too early to provide an accurate assessment of the financial position of Wendy’s Supa Sundaes Pty Ltd or an estimate of any potential return to creditors.

“We will continue to work through the financial affairs of Wendy’s Supa Sundaes Pty Ltd over the next few weeks and provide a report and our recommendations to creditors for them to decide the company’s future.”

A second creditors meeting will take place on 6 August 2015.
