Trampoline, Cold Rock and Pretzel World expand overseas

Espresso Martini ice cream anyone? It might be your dream combo and it’s about to become reality, thanks to innovations at gelato franchise chain Trampoline.

Parent company Franchised Food Company will be opening a store in the hugely popular tourist destination, Bali, early in 2017 and adding four premium alcoholic flavours to its menu.

Franchised Food Company CEO, Stan Gordon expects the new ice creams to be popular with over-18 year old holiday makers.

Gordon said that 2017 is set to be one of the company’s biggest years yet, with two more of its popular brands – Cold Rock and Pretzel World – also set for overseas expansion next year.

Pretzel World Dubai is set to open in January 2017, with plans underway to open a further two locations in August.  Mid-year the brand is expected to launch in Stan Gordon’s homeland, South Africa.

The target market is the visitor and international consumer in shopping centres. Pretzels will be served with coffee and shakes.

The distinctive Cold Rock brand with its smashed up mix-ins creating a customised ice cream will hit warmer climes too: both Saudi Arabia and South Africa are lined up for launches.

Gordon has signed up food based operators in Saudi Arabia with the goal of opening 15 to 30 outlets.

“They have to have local knowledge within the industry, distribution, reguations, customer demand, locations.”

In South Africa the first outlet will open in Johannesburg, and target a more sophisticated consumer with a high disposable income.

Gordon admits more resources will be needed in head office to manage the developments and extra staff will be brought in when required.

“There are only aout 20 people in head office,” he told FranchiseBusiness. “We’ll bring in more people as we need them.”
