Smoke alarm campaign a success at Battery World

Battery World has for the second year running seen impressive results for its smoke alarm safety campaign, which involves the battery franchise selling smoke alarm batteries for one dollar.

During April, all 77 Battery World stores around Australia offer customers 9 volt smoke alarm batteries for one dollar. The initiative coincides with a consumer safety campaign to encourage householders to change smoke alarm batteries before winter.

General manager, John Pascoe, said the campaign was a big success in 2010 and the results are even stronger this year.

“The campaign has a vital public safety message but it’s also a sound commercial strategy to get customers through the front door,” he said.

The one dollar battery concept has dovetailed with Battery World’s environmental initiative with Planet Ark, with the company encouraging customers to drop off their old batteries for recycling.

“With smoke alarm batteries being replaced in such large numbers, we want to ensure they don’t just end up in landfills. Our work with Planet Ark in recycling old batteries is a practical environmental contribution as well as a way to build positive exposure for the Battery World brand,” said Pascoe.
