The owners of a Mexican food franchise in New Zealand have got the taste for gourmet burgers, acquiring the well-established Burger Wisconsin chain.

The network of 22 franchised stores has been acquired by Mariposa Restaurant Holdings (MRH), which owns Mexicali Fresh.

Nathan Bonney, MRH’s general manager, said “There is a real opportunity to drive and support growth for both brands,” reports Stuff.co.nz.

Burger Wisconsin was established in 1989 and focuses on fresh, top quality local ingredients.

Mexicali Fresh opens its 12th outlet this week, with more stores planned for this year.
