New PoolWerx franchisees look to invest big bucks

Sarah Stowe

Of all the franchise enquiries PoolWerx received in 2012-13, half were from people who were looking to invest more than $100,000.

PoolWerx CEO John O’Brien said new franchisees typically invest in the brand’s man-in-a-van model first.

“Traditionally our franchise partners start with our man-in-a-van model for under $100,000 and grow through extra vans and establishing retail shops to their operation, funding the growth through the profitability of their business.

“However, some people have more money to invest and earning expectations that can be provided through a larger, established business with multiple vans and a retail store from the get-go,” added O’Brien.

Franchise partners Martin and Leah Olszanowski are one such example – they decided to trade in their own business for a PoolWerx franchise.

The pair are now multi-unit franchisees responsible for running two Gold Coast based retail stores and six service vans.

Their decision to join the brand was fuelled by the desire for a lifestyle change. “We wanted a business that afforded us a better work life balance and allowed us to spend more time with our young family and we liked the fact that PoolWerx focused on the family behind the brand, not just the brand.

“The business systems are already in place allowing us to use our experience working with corporate clients to focus on business growth, in particular our footprint in the commercial pool aftercare market,” said Martin.

Ipswich franchise partners Blake and Nicole McGrath adopted a similar approach to the Olszanowski’s.

The pair exited the manufacturing company they had owned and operated for 16 years for a PoolWerx franchise.

Blake said: “If we were to start an independent pool and spa care business, we’d be miles behind where we are starting with PoolWerx.

“As experienced business owners we know there are only so many business functions you can manage yourself and we really see the value in paying a royalty for ongoing support in areas including HR, marketing and IT.”

PoolWerx currently has more than 100 new and existing franchise opportunities available, ranging from mobile businesses through to multi-unit operations.
