New head for Fastway Couriers

Sarah Stowe

Fastway Couriers has appointed its Sydney regional franchise CEO as chief operating officer of the Australian operation. Richard Thame takes over from global chairman and founder, Bill McGowan, who has been driving the company since the departure of chief executive officer Ken Rosebery late last year.

Thame, whose role as COO allows for greater involvement with the Board, will steer the group’s largest network of 25 regional franchisees and more than 600 courier franchisees. “Operating a 15,000 sq m facility manned by over 180 courier franchisees, delivering in excess of 135,000 parcels each week, remains one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my career,” said Thame, who had previous roles with McDonald’s and Thrifty Car Rental.

“Fastway’s global turnover this year is $441 million, up from $385 million last year. Despite current economic conditions Fastway Australia is experiencing substantial growth,” said Thame.

Bill McGowan will continue to focus on global operations, including the latest development in South Africa.
